Transforming the Patient Experience
General Session or Keynote Address
(60 minutes)
The rapid rise of the experience economy, aging of the baby boomer generation and increasing focus on Patient Experience requires that healthcare providers see their traditional role through new lenses. In this new world, healthcare professionals are now experience producers who must intentionally design superior and personal Patient and Employee Experiences. Through this visionary yet practical presentation, Gary Adamson demonstrates the design of Patient Experiences in six fundamentally new and different ways.
The Transformation of Healthcare Marketing
General Session or Keynote Address
(60 minutes)
Each healthcare organization (and its marketing department) makes an implicit promise to its patients, staff and community about who they are and how they will serve their patients. Naturally, the question then becomes, are healthcare organizations delivering on their promise through a corresponding brand experience? Marketing, a relatively nascent function in healthcare, is poised to lead the charge in staging meaningful Patient Experiences as marketers have a deep understanding of the power of intention, storytelling and engaging individuals. And who better to guide the Brand Experience work of an organization than those who are vital in creating the brand promise?
Based on Gary Adamson and Sonia Rhodes' new book, The Complete Guide to Transforming the Patient Experience.
Courage to Be First
General Session or Keynote Address
(60 minutes)
Released in March 2009, Mark’s Scott’s book Courage To Be First relates the story of a small, rural Oregon hospital’s successful attempt to profoundly change for the better the way patients and their families experience their healthcare, an effort that led to a remarkable transformation of an entire organization and the man who directed it. During the 1990s, the evolution of Mid-Columbia Medical Center from traditional hospital to an innovative center for whole-person healing captured the attention of an entire industry, inspired articles in national media ranging from the LA Times to Time magazine, and led to site visits from administrators representing more than 1,000 hospitals in the U.S., Japan and England. It also captured the attention of renowned healthcare futurist Leland Kaiser, Ph.D, who, upon the 2001 retirement of Mid-Columbia Medical Center president Mark Scott, proposed co-authoring a book to chronicle the hospital’s story and to share its accompanying lessons in managerial innovation and personal growth.
During Mark’s presentation he relates the story of the evolution of Mid-Columbia Medical Center, and links the key elements of his journey to Leland Kaiser’s principles of courage and leadership. Healthcare managers will be challenged and inspired to adopt the strategies and behaviors that both Mark and Leland attribute to successful transformational leaders.
